1) How is Banyan Tree Hotels & Resort performance looking for 2011?
Things are looking up. Our performance for 2010 eclipsed that of 2009 and all indicators seem to suggest that our 2011 performance will be even stronger. Last year we were impacted by the political protests in Bangkok, but we have seen a significant rebound for our three Thai properties. Banyan Tree Samui got off to a strong start since opening in July last year, and in Phuket our 2010 revenue surpassed its 2009 level. In Bangkok, the industry as a whole has seen a drop in rates but we are still looking good for 2011. Food and beverage revenue, especially from our rooftop outlet Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar, continues to be very strong.
2) What development plans does Banyan Tree have for 2011
2011 will see a series of new additions to the Banyan tree portfolio. This year we will open our first properties in India and Mauritius - the Banyan Tree Kerala and Angsana Balaclava. We’ll also continue our growth in China with the opening of three more properties, adding to our six existing locations in the country. Banyan Tree Riverside, Shanghai will be a low-rise development on the Huangpu waterfront, about 40 minutes outside the city, while the Angsana Hangzhou will sit alongside the Banyan Tree Hangzhou in the Xixi National Wetland Park. We’ll also launch our first hotel in Macau in the first quarter of this year, at the Galaxy Macau integrated resort.
3) Can you tell us a bit more about the new Banyan Tree Macau?
Of course! The Banyan Tree Macau will be one of three hotels in the new Galaxy Macau integrated resort, in Cotai City. It will be unique in that all 246 suites which have a minimum size of 100m
