Visit California has held a series of travel agent workshops in southern India.
The tourism board travelled to Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in January 2016 to host three training and education seminars, as part of the broader ‘DiscoverAmerica’ initiative launched by Brand USA.
More than 260 Indian travel agents attended the three seminars, which focused on providing information about 12 Californian regions, plus the state’s activities and attractions.
Visit California is also encouraging Indian travel agents to register for its online training programme, ‘California Expert’, which was introduced to India in 2011. This course is accessible via the tourism board’s dedicated trade portal for the Indian market, trade.visitcalifornia.in.
More than 262,000 Indians visited California in 2014, giving the state a 27.2% market share of the total Indian visitors to the US. This figure also represented a 9.1% year-on-year increase.
Visit California said it now plans to expand its Indian trade programme to other first, second and third tier cities in the coming year.
