He said this was to capitalize on the country’s celebrations surroundingits 50 years of independence which starts on 31 August, Bernama reported. Hesaid the tourism campaign and the independence celebrations should be ayear-long affair under the “One Golden Celebration” campaign. More major eventswould also be organised during that period, he said. “I have mentioned this to the Cabinet a few months ago but have yet to officially propose it,”he was quoted telling reporters.

and successes as a nation of diverse races, cultures and religions.
All the 13 states and federal territories in Malaysia will organizestate-level celebrations. The eve - 30 August - will see
a re-enactment of the declaration of independence followed by aparade the next day. Meanwhile the tourism minister
said a whopping RM22.4 billion was spent by foreign tourists in Malaysia in thefirst six months of the year. He said 10.7 million visitors came to Malaysiaduring the period, and each spent an average of RM2,100 (US$600).
“This iswithin the range of our target of getting them to spend RM45.5 billion (US$13billion) during Visit Malaysia Year,” Tengku Adnan was quoted saying.
