Vistara has started the year on a high, quite literally, with the announcement of two new routes to northern India.
In March 2017, Singapore Airlines’ Indian carrier will launch its first services to the Punjabi city of Amritsar, and Leh, the Himalayan tourist destination in Jammu & Kashmir.
The expansion will commence on 1 March with the launch of flights from Delhi to Amritsar, and will continue a week later on 8 March with services from Mumbai to Amritsar. Both routes will start with six weekly flights before moving to daily in the summer.
Then on 25 March Vistara will start flying between Delhi and Leh. Initially flights will only run on weekends, but they will increase to daily from 10 May 2017.
Vistara’s CEO, Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO, said the expansion “further cements Vistara’s position in the domestic market as a committed player in the Indian aviation sector”.
“An enormous number of pilgrims and tourists visit Amritsar throughout the year to pray at the Golden Temple and the city also draws visitors from across the globe for its rich culture and cuisine.
“Leh is another special tourist destination that has emerged to be a favourite amongst millions of Indians. Its Buddhist sites, nearby trekking areas and amazing landscapes are increasingly finding place in the bucket lists of global and local travelers. Both these destinations fit perfectly into Vistara’s network strategy,” he added.
Vistara will suspend its Delhi-Varanasi flights from 1 March however, and following the changes, the airline will serve a total of 19 Indian destinations.
