ANA, the launch customer for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has started training its pilots in how to operate the new passenger aircraft. Ten ANA pilots will initially enter the training programme, run by Boeing Training & Flight Services, using the aircraft manufacturer’s simulators and flight training software.
Like the plane itself, the Full Flight Simulator for the Dreamliner is more energy efficient than previous models, using 80% less electricity. The cockpits of the Dreamliner have also been based on the Boeing 777, making the transition process easier for existing wide-body aircraft pilots.
The first training programme will be completed on 17 May, and some 80 ANA pilots are scheduled to be trained to fly the Dreamliner by the end of the 2011-12 financial year. By this time, ANA should have taken delivery of its first 787.
The carrier has ordered 55 Rolls-Royce-powered Dreamliners, the first of which is scheduled to be delivered during the third quarter of this calendar year.
