Angry Birds parks planned for China
The company behind Angry Birds has said it plans to develop a series of “activity parks” in China.
Peter Vesterbacka, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Rovio, said the company is planning a major roll-out of offline products and merchandise based on the Angry Birds game, including parks and official stores.
The first Angry Birds activity park launched in Rovio’s home country of Finland in April, and the China Daily reported that the company is now working on projects in China.
“We will have many activity parks around cities in China,” Vesterbacka was quoted saying. “China is an extremely important market for us. It is a fast-growing market,” he added.
No information was offered about the location of the new parks, but in terms of content Vesterbacka said they would “be different from traditional theme parks… to make people actively engaged in the game”.
In September 2011 Rovio revealed that nearly 40 million people had downloaded the Angry Birds game in China. Worldwide, the game recently reached one billion downloads.
