Newly appointed Airports of Thailand (AoT) President, Serirat Prasutanond, has announced his plans for developing facilities at the country main airports. According to a report in The Nation, Serirat said he will focus on raising non-aviation revenue and developing facilities at Suvarnabhumi Airport as his first priority. The THB77 billion (US$2.3 billion) airport development plan is expected to take six years to implement, raising the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 45 million to 80 million. The domestic terminal project will commence next year, and will include a third runway. Other developments at Suvarnabhumi will include a community mall, land development south of the airport, and warehouse construction.
At Bangkok’s second airport, Don Mueang, projects include a terminal and maintenance facilities for private jets and an aviation training centre, while at Chiang Mai Airport, a duty-free-zone warehouse will be built. TDA reported earlier this week that the green light has been given for the THB5.8 billion expansion of Phuket International Airport, adding a terminal for private jets, and doubling its overall annual passenger capacity to 12.5 million.
