The Asia-Pacific will pass Europe to have the world’s second biggest aircraft fleet by 2019, according to a forecast from London consultancy Ascend. Ascend’s global fleet forecast predicts the Asia-Pacific aircraft fleet will increase from 22% of the global total to 28% over the next decade, putting it ahead of Europe and within a percentage point of North America. The region is expected to account for 35% of all aircraft deliveries — with 14% going to the rapidly expanding Chinese market. This includes 17% of all narrow body deliveries and will push China’s global fleet share from 7% to 10%. And low-cost growth in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will help drive the growth as will fleet renewals in Australia.
