Afghanistan avalanches kill 165

Several avalanches which engulfed a mountain pass in Afghanistan as killed at least 165 people, the BBC reported officials as saying. Hundreds of people were reported to have been trapped in their vehicles in the Salang Pass. Approximately 2,500 people have been rescued so far, but scores more are feared buried following several days of heavy snow.
