Asiana first to Japan’s Ibaraki
Asiana Airlines, South Korea’s second-largestcarrier, has announced plans to start flights to the new Japanese airport atIbaraki, near Tokyo, becoming the new airport’s first customer, according to aBloomberg report.
The carrier will begin daily flights betweenIncheon International Airport and Ibaraki from March 2010, Asiana spokesperson,Lee Cha Youn, was quoted saying. The airline may also add flights between Pusanand Ibaraki later, Bloomberg added.
Ibaraki prefecture, home to 3 million people, isbuilding the airport just over an hour north of Japan’s biggest internationalgateway, Narita, to serve its citizens and those of neighbouring prefectures inthe Kanto area. It is set to open next year.
