The Australian hotel industry is hopeful that the government will to overturn a law designed to curb excessive drinking, the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) reported. The new rule forces 48 pubs and clubs to shut their bars for 10 minutes each hour after midnight.
The Australian Hotels Association has reportedly been told by the government that it would consider a hotel proposal to overturn the 10-minute rule. The association is arguing the 10-minute ban encourages binge drinking and aggression against bar staff.
The hotels are reportedly requesting that water stations be set up at bars and that in place of the 10-minute ban, the SMH report added.
