The plunging Australian dollar is not deterring the country’s travellers, who are now tailoring their trips to suit the new economic order, news.com.au has reported on-line booking agent, Lastminute.com.au as saying. According to the company, Asian and Pacific destinations are now benefitting as Australians look closer to home for their holidays.
“With the dollar recently reaching a five-year low, Aussies are getting smarter about ways to make their dollar stretch further by choosing destinations which will give them more bang for their travelling buck,” Lastminute.com.au spokesperson, Angie Bohlmann, said.
Bohlmann added that domestic destinations have also grown more popular, with bookings growing 8% in the first two weeks of October. The company also reported a 38% increase in trips to Fiji, a 20% rise in Bali holidays, and a 32% increase in flights to Phuket.
It named the top five international destinations for bargain holidays as Bali, followed by New Zealand, Thailand, Fiji and Singapore.
