The demand for more seats between Australia and India is likely to shoot up by 2020. A study by Tourism Australia has estimated air traffic growth between the two countries would require an additional 345,000 seats by 2020.
“Keeping the demand in mind, Tourism Australia would work with Indian and other carriers to identify opportunities for the Australia-India route and provide partnership solutions to facilitate growth of Indian tourism in Australia,” the tourism board’s Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy was quoted saying by the Economic Times.
Currently there are no direct flights connecting Australia and India, while most Indian travellers transit through Asian cities like Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong to visit Australia. Air India has announced plans to launch non-stop flight to Melbourne and Sydney this October with its new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
