Australian travel advisories may be reviewed after calls for change was support from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, the Bangkok Post has reported. The controversial warnings have long been a source of disharmony between Australia and its Asian neighbours, with Indonesia most recently calling for travel advisory warnings to be downgraded. Now, a report submitted to Australian PM Kevin Rudd has called for the advisories to be reviewed. The report, ‘Australia 2020’ was produced by a team of cross-industry experts to decide how Australia should plan for the future. It concluded that Australia be bought closer to Asia, highlighting a desire for all Australian citizens to learn at least one Asian language by 2020. “The possibility of placing Australian students in Asian nations was raised” the report states. “Travel advisory warnings were also cited as an impediment to student exchanges with Asia, which was considered a critical issue for Australia’s integration into the Asian region.” The report continued to say that the current travel advisory system was overly conservative, flawed and inaccurate.
