Heston Blumenthal will open the Australian edition of his famous ‘Fat Duck’ restaurant in Melbourne on 3 February 2015, it has been revealed.
The three Michelin-starred restaurant, which is usually based in the UK village of Bray, will relocate to Melbourne’s Crown Tower Resorts next year while the original restaurant is being renovated.
The move was first announced in March this year, and Blumenthal said that he has since been inundated with interest from the Australian market.
“Australia’s response to the news that The Fat Duck would make Melbourne its home for six months has been absolutely overwhelming. I am utterly humbled by the reception,” said the chef, who is renowned for his molecular gastronomy style of cooking.
The Fat Duck’s move to Melbourne will not only be in name; it will be a complete, wholesale transplant of the UK restaurant to Australia, including the menu, chefs and some of the original restaurant’s decorations.
One addition to the Melbourne restaurant will be a ‘Chef’s Table’, offering up to four diners to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the restaurant’s inner workings.
The Fat Duck will be based in Melbourne for six months, following which it will head back to Bray.
