Austravel has welcomed UNESCO’s decision to add 11 of Australia’s convict sites to the World Heritage List. The operator believes the recent addition will boost tourism and dispel the myth that Australia is lacking in history. “The convict sites are a major part of Australia’s story and it’s great to know that the sites will be protected for future generations,” said Austravel Brand Manager Ben Briggs. “Australia has a unique heritage and plenty to offer visitors who want a cultural experience from their holiday as well as enjoying the beaches and landscapes.” The sites are located in Tasmania (including Port Arthur, pictured), Sydney, Fremantle and Norfolk Island.
