Stiff competition has resulted in Austrian Airlines pulling out its direct flights to Dubai.
As per a recent decision, passengers of the Lufthansa Group will be able to access the destination through Frankfurt, Zurich or Munich.
The reason cited for the withdrawal is over-capacity, built up in recent years, resulting in price competition. This ultimately made the Vienna-Dubai route unsustainable for Austrian Airlines.
The last Austrian Airlines flight will take off on 13 September 2015 from Vienna to Dubai, and from Dubai to Vienna on 14 September 2015.
“Unfortunately, the Vienna-Dubai route has become unsustainable for us. The capacities which will become available will be deployed for new destinations, such as Miami, Mauritius and Colombo in Sri Lanka starting in October,” said Austrian Airlines CCO Andreas Otto.
As of 16 October 2015, the airline will operate flights to Miami five times per week. Further commencing from 27 October 2015, the airline will fly every Tuesday to Colombo and from 29 October 2015 a nonstop flight service twice a week to Mauritius.
