British Airways has announced it will introduce its First and Club World classes on flights to Moscow next year. The airline announced the changes during the UK trade delegation in Russia, which is being led by Prime Minister David Cameron. In the announcement the carrier said it will be the first airline to offer premium class options to flights from Heathrow to Moscow. The new options will be available in April next year. “It [Russia] is an important and growing market for us and we want to reflect our commitment to the region and our customers by enhancing our services and increasing the number of seats that are available to Moscow,” said Sir Martin Broughton, chairman of BA. Meanwhile on the same visit, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced it plans to open 100 hotels in Russia and the CIS by 2020. “We see a huge opportunity to grow our hotel brands, such as Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn, in Russia,” said Angela Brav, CEO of IHG Europe, who joined Cameron and Broughton on the trade mission. “In Moscow alone, there are just over 9,000 international standard rooms, which is equivalent to around ten per cent of the hotel rooms in London so there is still a terrific opportunity for international hotel operators with a presence here”. IHG opened its first hotel in Russia back in 1998 and now has 11 properties in the region.
