Construction activities to broaden Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport will start from the beginning of next year in a bid to improve its services to passengers, an official was quoted saying by Antara news agency.
According to Heru Legowo, General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura - the airport operator – construction design of the airport has been made available.
The office is now coordinating with other institutions regarding the design. The report said the present airport facilities could no longer accommodate the growing number of passengers. Bali airport was expected to be able to cater about 70,000 passengers per day, compared with its current accommodation capacity of about 13,000 passengers.
According to Heru, development of the airport terminal was expected to be completed in 2012.
“(A) special passenger flyover will be constructed starting from the eastern gate, so there will be two street levels of entry heading to the airport terminal as that of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport,” Heru was quoted saying.
