Bali appears to have suffered little from the two hotel bombings that hit Jakarta last month, according to Bali Discovery.com, citing a Bisnis Indonesia report. According to data released by Indonesia’s Center for Information and Public Relations at the Department of Culture and Tourism, daily average arrivals of foreign tourists in Bali in the period 1-16 July, just prior to the Jakarta bombing, stood at 7,283 visitors. In the period following the bombing, 17-27 July, the average number of foreign arrivals to Bali rose to 7,938. During this aftermath period, the island’s hotels saw occupancy levels average at 73.4%, although a comparative month-on-month or year-on-year figure was not revealed.
A government study of international arrivals into Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport undertaken was also revealed to show that for the first 26 days of July a total of 195,908 foreign tourists came to Bali, at an average of 7,535 people per day. This compares to the previous month of June when an average of 6,661 foreign tourists came to Bali each day.
Year-on-year, Bali’s foreign arrivals for July 2009 saw a 23.3% rise, up from just 6,111 daily international visitors in July 2008.
