Hotels and resorts in Bali are basking in their most successful weekend for many years, as the Indonesian Independence Day holiday period provided a massive influx of visitors to the island. Many hotels enjoyed 100% occupancy levels for several consecutive days, as confidence in Indonesia’s island jewel returned to levels not seen since before the 2002 bombings.
Hotels in many of the island’s key beach destinations predicted weekend-long occupancy rates would exceed 90%. One of the island’s newest luxury resorts, the 58-room Anantara Seminyak Resort & Spa told TDA that they achieved 100% occupancy for three consecutive nights, over 15, 16 and 17 August.
“People really started coming from the 13th (August),” Anantara’s Revenue Manager, Pustala Arisusila told TDA. “We have been at 100% from Friday (15th) through ’til Sunday (17th), with Monday dropping to around 89%.”
Bali celebrated Indonesian Independence Day in fine style, with huge beach parties all through the weekend attracting thousands of revellers.
Confidence in Bali has been returning for a while, with hotel occupancy rising steadily from the post-2005 bombing lows. But the weekend’s excellent performance, plus the fact that it all passed off without any security issues, will give the final boost Bali’s tourism industry needed.
