Yesterday, it announced four new regional routes to be launched on 29 Oct.
First off are five weekly flights from Bangkok to Vientiane.
Currently, THAI and Lao Airlines make the run twice a day with fares starting at US$99, and they rarely give a discount.
Nok Air offers three daily budget flights to Udon Thani in Thailand with fares as low as US$30, leaving passengers an hour taxi or cross-border bus ride short of the Lao capital.
Though PG isn’t a low cost carrier, they aren’t afraid of cutting fares to get a bigger slice of the pie. Vientiane may not be the hottest destination, but a reasonably priced flight could fill the 162 A320 seats.
However, the carrier has yet to put a price tag on the fare.
PG is also reviving its Bangkok-Krabi service, having halted flights a few years back.
The airline will use an A320 on the route to the Andaman Sea resort.
That’s bound to be a winner as more and more beach hounds are seeking an alternative to Phuket and Samui.
For those already in Samui and want a quick lift to Krabi, Bangkok Airways is launching three weekly flights on a 70-seat ATR 72 turboprop, the perfect aircraft for the short regional jump.
PG’s fourth new service - Chiang Mai to Siem Reap – has left many scratching their heads, wondering how many passengers will board the ATR 72 on the twice weekly, one-way-only flight.
The route is being marketed as a link in the airline’s Mekong World Heritage loop.
