Bangkok Hotels could raise rates next year by up to 20% on prevailing prices. According to Starwood’s Vice President for Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, Wayne Buckingham, city rates have been frozen following the financial crisis of 2008, political problems and finally major flooding in the capital. But many hoteliers plan to raise rates by 5-10% in the new year, edging closer to the cost of hotel nights in Hong Kong and Singapore which are currently 25% higher. Buckingham told the Bangkok Post that hotels with a good product could up rates by 20%.
