Banyan Tree is to develop and operate a resort in Dunhuang county, in the northwestern Gansu province in China. Situated close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mogao Caves, Banyan Tree Dunhuang spans across more than 31 hectares of virgin land.
The initial phase of the development will comprise a Banyan Tree resort and an Angsana resort. The Group said later phases would see the addition of up to three more resorts. The Group said it would also tap into the site’s sand dunes to create unique dining and recreational experiences for its guests.
Banyan Tree Holdings already has a portfolio of 14 resorts and city hotels in China. This development in Dunhuang follows from last year’s announcements of projects in Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, among other locations within China.
