The news comes after a recent announcement that Northwest had received tentative approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin a non-stop route between Detroit and Shanghai.
Both flights are expected to begin in March 2009, Associated Pres reported, quoting airport officials.
“After Shanghai, Beijing is the most desired destination for travel from Detroit,” Lester Robinson, chief executive of the Wayne County Airport Authority, was quoted saying.
