‘Best Job’ finalists set for Aussie showdown
The finalists of Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’ campaign have been selected, and will now travel Down Under for the final showdown.
The tourism board has whittled the list of entrants down from 330,000 to just 18 – three for each of the six jobs available. Virgin Australia will now fly the finalists to Australia where they will spend a week undergoing the final stage of the competition. This will involve the contestants compiling tourism videos, writing blogs and handling a press conference.
“After six weeks, 620,000 applications by 330,000 individuals from 196 countries, 46,000 video entries and thousands of supporting references from some of the most famous celebrities in the world we are down to the final 18,” said Tourism Australia’s Managing Director, Andrew McEvoy. “It’s show time. The candidates now face their very own Australian working holiday – a week of tests and challenges which will ultimately decide who ends up winning these six dream jobs.”
The 18 finalists were each selected on the basis of their original 30-second video entry and their success in securing endorsement and publicity to support their application. The candidates come from 11 different countries: the US (5), UK (3), France (2), Afghanistan, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland and Taiwan.
Following the final round, the six winners will be officially announced in Sydney on 21 June 2013. The six jobs up for grabs are: Wildlife Caretaker in South Australia, Chief Funster in New South Wales, Park Ranger in Queensland, Taste Master in Western Australia, Outback Adventurer in Northern Territory and Lifestyle Photographer in Victoria.
