The Tourism Council of Bhutan is aiming to increase the number of visitors it attracts from Australia, with the appointment of a new representative in the country.
The Unique Tourism Collection has been appointed as the Himalayan kingdom’s new Australian rep, and will now handle sales, marketing and media activity aimed at driving more Australian business to Bhutan.
Bhutan said it would focus on Australia as a key market in 2016, adding that tourism is now “the government’s top priority”.
“The royal government of Bhutan recognises that tourism, in affording the opportunity to travel, can help in promoting understanding among people and building closer ties of friendship based on appreciation and respect for different cultures and lifestyles,” the Tourism Council stated.
More than 2,000 Australians currently travel to Bhutan each year.
