Blizzards destroy 12,000 homes in Xinjiang

More than 12,000 homes have been destroyed by recent blizzards in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Xinhua has reported. This figure included 248 during last weekend’s snowstorm in Yining county in, authorities were reported saying. Since 1 February, blizzards have affected nearly 87,000 people and have killed 6,800 cattle, the report stated. The most recent snowstorm, which struck on Saturday and Sunday, caused an estimated CNY3.6 million (US$523,000) worth of damage.
