Indonesian Culture and Tourism Minister, Jero Wacik, has asked the blogging community to help promote the country’s tourist sites to the world, a report said.
According to his speech at a Blogger Party in Jakarta, he had said; “Today, almost all human activities are closely related to the online media. It is necessary to put the mission to promote tourism.”
News agency Antara reported that he had hoped that bloggers from foreign countries like Australia, the US and Malaysia could also publicise Indonesia’s tourism sites.
“Coinciding with the Indonesia Visit Year 2008 programme, we try to make breakthroughs in promoting tourism, including through the online media,” Wacik was quoted as saying.
In a related development, the government said it was optimistic the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia next year would reach 10 million with foreign exchange earnings estimated at US$10 billion.
“We hope the condition will be getting more stable so that the tourism sector will contribute more to the country’s foreign exchange earnings,” Secretary General of the Culture and Tourism Ministry, Wardiyatmo, was reported saying by Antara.
The ministry had earlier set the target of tourist arrivals for 2009 at 7.1 million.
