Scott Blume, formerly President Travelocity Asia Pacific and CEO of ZUJI, has joined a new B2C online travel provider in Indonesia. Rajakamar, which was formed through an alliance between three of Indonesia’s largest travel conglomerates, has ambitious plans for the country, and new CEO Blume, who officially joins the company on 1 November, intends to lead it into a leading market position.
“I passionately believe in this market,” Blume told Travel Daily. “We want to be the best online offering in Indonesia, for Indonesians. Our website is in Bahasa and we have no plans to launch an English version. We also have a 24-hour call centre which is vital as 80% of our Indonesian transactions take place over the phone. Likewise we facilitate bank transactions, instead of just online payments. We want to do what Indonesians want to do.”
Blume indicated that with Indonesian being one of the key emerging world economies, Rajakamar has the potential to do what Makemytrip and Ctrip have done in India and China respectively – become the primary online B2C booking channel for domestic travellers.
“Makemytrip, Ctrip and Wotif in Australia have had huge success in their domestic markets. We want to make sure that we grow our Indonesian market share,” Blume said.
