Jetstar was to get its first plane in August and had planned to introduce flights to Athens or Rome ahead of the Christmas 2008 holidays, news.com.au reported.
“Our plans to use the aircraft to create new markets in Asia and to begin services to Europe are more likely to go ahead now in 2009,” Simon Westaway, Jetstar’s head of corporate affairs, was quoted saying.
Qantas is Boeing’s biggest 787 customer.
The airline is buying 65 of the 787s, holds options on 20 additional aircraft, and holds purchase rights for a further 30 planes.
