Boeing has announced its new 777X model will have 15% larger windows and a 16-inch wider cabin than competitors as it looks to combine the ‘best’ of its 777 and 787 models.
The planemaker said the new B777X will have the ‘passenger-preferred’ interiors of the current 777 but with the cabin innovations used on the 787 Dreamliner.
The new 777X will have the same altitude as the Dreamliner of 6,000 feet, while windows will be 15% larger and at eye level for most passengers.
Its widened cabin will allow for economy seats that are up to 18 inches wide, while new LED lighting and a higher cabin humidity will alter conditions for passengers.
“We’re already getting very positive feedback from our customers about the 777X’s design concepts, and we think passengers’ preference for the 777-300ER and 787 will continue with the 777X,” said Boeing’s VP and general manager for the programme Bob Feldman.
Six airlines including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific currently have 300 777Xs on order with production to start in 2017 and deliveries for 2020.
