Boeing has now taken orders for more than 2,000 of its new single-aisle aircraft, the B737 MAX.
The planemaker recently announced additional orders for 30 B737 MAXs from unidentified customers, taking its total order book for the programme to 2,010 aircraft worth US$209 billion at list prices.
Boeing noted that the milestone means that the B737 MAX has reached 2,000 orders faster than any other Boeing aircraft in history.
“Two thousand orders at this stage in the programme is a remarkable achievement,” said Keith Leverkuhn, vice president and general manager of the 737 MAX programme. “Since its first order, the 737 MAX has received more than 50% of the new orders versus its direct competition, proving the value this airplane offers to our customers.”
The B737 MAX is a new fuel-efficient version of the popular B737 series, offering 14% more fuel-efficiency than the existing model. The first B737 MAX is scheduled to be delivered to launch customer Southwest Airlines in the third quarter of 2017.
Other customers for the new jet include Air Canada, American Airlines, Lion Air, SpiceJet, Turkish Airlines and Virgin Australia.
