Colombo, 22 April 2010. The glamour of Indian cinema comes to Sri Lanka between 3 to 5 June at the 11th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards.
The culture, colour and the unique sights of Sri Lanka will give the IIFA four day event is own kind of magic, beaming out from the Sri Lankan capital.
Showcasing the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema and a wealth of talent, this event has grown from one to four days, having in previous years celebrated in capitals across the globe.
These four days are packed with excitement. There are press conferences, parties, film premieres, film festivals, celebrity events culminated in the glittering IIFA awards ceremony – the most watched annual global event by 600 millions of fans on every continent.
Now it’s Sri Lanka chance to shine in celluloid glory. Downtown metropolis of Colombo will be buzzing with Bollywood film stars like Katrina Kaif and directors like Ashutosh Gowarikar, the colonial architecture (British or the Fort District with Dutch and Portuguese) providing a charming backdrop.
This teardrop shaped island, with 1,600 km of unspoilt beaches combined with ancient cultural sites has attracted record visitors in recent months, thanks to a new era of peace and stability. Stars can find seclusion in Sri Lanka’s range of beachfront resorts along the west and south coast, jungle retreats, ayurvedic centres or lakeside eco lodges.
The weekend includes the FICCI IIFA Global Business Forum, the IIFA Foundation Fashion Extravaganza, the IIFA Foundation Celebrity Cricket Match, World premieres of Indian Films, & IIFA Film workshop.
