Royal Caribbean International has announced it will base a ship in Brisbane for the first time next summer.
Legend of the Seas will be based out of the Australian city for the 2015/16 season and is expected to cause an inbound tourism boost to the region.
Legend of the Seas will also make 10 calls at ports in Queensland and the South Pacific.
It will be the brand’s fourth ship from Australia, alongside Explorer of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas, representing a 47% capacity increase.
“We are thrilled to announce our first program of cruises from Brisbane. Legend of the Seas will provide a new choice in local cruising – and is the logical next stage in Royal Caribbean’s growth in Australia,” said Gavin Smith, regional vice president Asia Pacific. “This move comes off the back of strong demand from both the local and international guests and represents another major investment by Royal Caribbean in the Australian cruise market.”
