Brisbane evacuates as floods threaten city

Thousands of people fled Brisbane on Tuesday as floodwaters threatened the city, Channel NewsAsia has reported. Flash floods killed at least 10 people in areas west of Australia’s third largest city this week, but 78 people remain missing. The city evacuated after the Brisbane River burst its banks threatening 6,500 properties and the central business district.
“This water is on its way,” said Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Campbell Newman was reported saying. “Thursday is going to be devastating.”
