British Airways has announced it will launch flights from Gatwick to Sri Lanka via the Maldives next year.
The thrice weekly service will commence on 31 March to Colombo via Male and will be operated by a Boeing 777 with a three-cabin configuration.
“This is such an exciting new route for us. The UK has the second largest number of tourists visiting the island after India so it’s a fantastic opportunity for them to fly there with British Airways from Gatwick,” said Silla Maizey, managing director Gatwick at BA. The flights will go on sale tomorrow from £595 in World Traveller.
Sri Lankan Airlines currently flies directly to Colombo daily from Heathrow. It will fly 12 times a week on the route between 13 December 2012 and 15 January 2013, then again between 4 February 2013 and 10 March 2013.
