Brits are taking spontaneous ‘staycation’ breaks to the extreme, with one in three booking with less than five days before they leave, new research has revealed.
Booking data from Snaptrip, the last minute cottage holiday hub, found that York is home to the most spontaneous travellers while those who spend the most time planning their break live in Nottingham.
York residents on average book a cottage break 16 days before they depart, closely followed by Dublin (17 days) and Liverpool (21 days) – all leaving less than a month to prepare for their staycation.
Nottingham natives on the other hand book up to 45 days before they depart, leaving plenty of time for packing and planning day trips. Although they aren’t the only city that prefers preparation time, with Leeds and Southampton needing 36 days, Cardiff requiring 35 days and Newcastle needing 30 days.
When it comes to how far people will go for their dream holiday in the UK, Newcastle folk are the most adventurous, on average travelling 302 miles from their hometown to go on an adventure – although York residents are still willing travelling some distance (152 miles).
