For the British, their summer holidays are far more important that they are willing to give up takeaways, alcohol and nights before giving up their breaks, the Coventry Evening Telegraph said.
It quoted a report which revealed 58% of people would give up a weekly takeaway and 39% alcohol to save money this year but only 27% would forfeit their holiday.
The poll of 2,023 adults found about half would give up nights out to save money.
The report quoted Julian Carr, Commercial Director of survey commissioner, bmibaby, as saying; “The credit crunch is making people think carefully about spending priorities for 2009 and question what they want to give up.
“The results show people are prepared to cut back on ‘luxuries’, such as takeaways and nights out to go on their annual summer holiday, which is sacrosanct to many.
“This result is confirmed by the strong bookings we are seeing for summer 2009, to the typical sun destinations.”
