Cambodia has signed an agreement with Russia that could lead to the launch of direct flights between the two countries.
Russia’s TASS news agency reports that the deal was signed during the recent visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Cambodia.
There have been no direct flights between Russia and Cambodia since Aeroflot suspended its Phnom Penh service in the early 1990s. But Cambodia is a popular holiday destination for Russian tourists, despite a recent downturn in arrivals caused by the country’s economic problems.
Any direct flights are likely to be operated by Russian carriers, as no Cambodian airline currently has the capability to provide long-haul flights.
