Canada day set for 2010

The annual Canada Day in London celebration, which has attracted over 200,000 visitors in the past four years, has been confirmed for Thursday July 1st, 2010.
The day-long celebration of Canadian culture, which is free for all visitors, will take place in Trafalgar Square, starting at 12pm with the dropping of the puck for the Trafalgar Cup street hockey tournament.
This year’s event will again be in association with Canadian Affair as the 2010 title sponsor. Canadian Affair is the UK’s largest tour operator to Canada, with flights and holidays from nine airports in the UK & Ireland to seven Canadian cities. Canada Day is being coordinated for the 2nd year by Rainmaker Global Business Development.
Visitors to Canada Day in London 2010 - A Canadian Affair, will be able to watch teams battle it out in the Trafalgar Cup hockey tournament, enjoy a taste of Canada with popular Canadian chefs who will perform cooking demonstrations in the square, watch a range of Canadian films and pick up the latest information about Canada as a holiday destination. There will be plenty for children to enjoy including face painting, street performers, balloons and the chance to meet the famous Canadian “Mounties” - the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
From 6.15pm, a range of Canadian musicians will perform on stage, with a headline act due to be announced shortly. Major acts in previous years have included the Trews, Sam Roberts, Stereos and Kathleen Edwards.
The Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, James R. Wright, said: “I’m delighted that Canada Day will again return to the heart of London next year, marking its fifth anniversary on Trafalgar Square: a celebration that last year attracted more than 30,000 people.
