Legendary showman Raj Kapoor is being honoured by Canada, with a crescent being named after him in Brampton, to coincide with the hosting of the 12th IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) festival being held in Toronto from 26 June.Several members of the Kapoor family are expected to be present at the re-naming ceremony.Raj Kapoor is credited with popularising Indian movies abroad in a big way and he started the trend of films being shot abroad, with Sangam being shot abroad in the 1960s.Today, many countries are eyeing the Indian movie market for shooting movies in their locations.Canada has made Akshay Kumar brand ambassador of its tourism and the country has set up an office in India to promote tourism.
