The discovery of cockroaches in a tourist destination would usually make visitors head for the exit, but one South Africa believes a new discovery may well be draw card. This year the world’s only jumping cockroach was discovered by scientists in Cape Town’s Table Mountain National Park, and last week was named one of the top 10 species discoveries of the year by an international panel of experts. The publicity generated from the nomination is now expected to lead to a boost in tourism by amateur scientists.”It seems that there’s lots of exciting undiscovered insects and other animals in the Cape,” said South African insect expert, Mike Picker. The jumping cockroach was found a 10-minute drive from central Cape Town. Let’s just hope they stay there.
