Cardiff Airport has been sold to the Welsh government for GBP52 million from its previous Spanish owners TBI.
Ministers will now be looking to boost passenger numbers from the Welsh airport, which saw numbers drop from two million in 2007 to just over one million last year.
“The airport will not be operated by the Welsh government. It will be managed at arm’s length from government on a commercial basis and, over time, I expect to see a return to the public purse on the investment,” said First Minister Carwyn Jones on the announcement.
“A chief executive of the airport will be announced in due course. In the meantime, I am delighted that Lord Rowe-Beddoe has agreed to serve as Chairman of the Airport Board,” he added.
Cardiff Airport will be explaining the details behind this announcement and other news at our Thirsty Thursday Cardiff event on 25 April. To be there, sign up here.
