Cathay Pacific Airways has unveiled a new livery that will be gradually rolled out across its entire fleet of aircraft.
The new livery, which was showcased on one of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft at a recent event at Hong Kong International Airport, retains the airline’s classic green and white colour scheme, but is simpler than before with more white space. The aircraft will retain the soft grey band around along the fuselage, but the thin red lines on the aircraft’s tailfin and nose section have disappeared.
Cathay said these changes give the aircraft a “more contemporary feel… which is better aligned with the direction of Cathay Pacific’s overall brand redesign”.
“Today represents the beginning of a new era for Cathay Pacific,” said the airline’s chief executive, Ivan Chu. “We are very happy and proud to unveil our new aircraft livery which represents our journey into the future and also celebrates the many great things we have achieved over the past seven decades as the home carrier of Hong Kong.
“The livery is a vital part of our brand image – a symbol of the company’s values displayed on our most important physical asset. The livery represents Cathay Pacific in and out of Hong Kong and every time our aircraft take-off or touchdown in our network of destinations around the world,” he added.
The airline’s new fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft will be the first to display the new livery when they start entering service in the first quarter of 2016. Cathay’s existing fleet will also be progressively repainted over the course of the next five years, with approximately 150 aircraft getting the makeover.
The new livery is part of a series of efforts Cathay is undertaking to update its products and image. These include new aircraft and major enhancements to airport lounges.
