Cebu Pacific (CEB) flew more than 3.1 million passengers in the second quarter of 2011, recording year-on-year growth in terms of both traffic and load factors. The carrier’s international traffic saw especially strong growth, rising 21% compared to Q2 2010. Domestic traffic increased 13%, leading to an overall year-on-year traffic growth of 15%.
The airline flew more than 683,000 international and 2.4 million domestic passengers in the April-June 2011 period. It also achieved an averaged load factor of 89% – two percentage points higher than Q2 2010. The results mean that the Philippine-based low-cost carrier is on track to reach its target of 12 million passengers for full-year 2011.
“CEB posted strong growth figures in the 2nd quarter of 2011, given its trademark lowest fares, extensive route network and innovative travel services. April and May are seasonally the strongest in domestic travel, and we will remain consistent in growing the market so every Juan gets the chance to fly,” said CEB’s Vice President for Marketing & Distribution, Candice Iyog.
“We will continue to expand internationally, consistent with our goal to bring more tourists to and from the Philippines. CEB’s international passengers increased in the 2nd quarter, owing to our increased flight frequencies and direct flights from international destinations to Manila, Cebu and Clark,” she added.
On the international front, traffic to and from Taiwan saw the strongest growth, increasing 66% year-on-year. This was followed by South Korea (+42%), China (+38%) and Singapore (+22%).
“As we accept delivery of more brand-new aircraft orders in the last week of September and October 2011, we will continue offering the lowest fares to all the destinations we serve. CEB is slated to begin its Tawi-Tawi to Zamboanga flights, as well as its Cagayan de Oro-Iloilo service on October 14, further expanding CEB’s network in the Philippines,” Iyog said.
CEB currently operates a fleet of 33 aircraft, with a further five being delivered to the airline by the end of the year.
