Changi has second most A380 flights
Singapore’s Changi airport handled the second highest number of Airbus A380 flights in the world last year.
The Southeast Asian hub operated 6,653 scheduled A380 flights connecting to 19 destinations last year, making it second only to Dubai International Airport which handled 7,259 A380 flights to 28 destinations. London Heathrow was third, with 3,697 flights to six destinations, followed by Frankfurt in fourth, with 3,071 A380 flights to 12 destinations. Sydney was fifth, with 2,697 flights to eight destinations.
Rounding out the top 10 during 2012 were Paris Charles de Gaulle (2,613 scheduled A380 flights to 11 destinations), Hong Kong (2,145, nine), Los Angeles (2,048, seven), New York JFK (2,004, six) and Melbourne (1,710, seven).
The results largely correlate to the number of A380 deliveries. Dubai-based Emirates operates the world’s largest A380 fleet, with 31 aircraft, followed by Changi-based Singapore Airlines with 19, Sydney-based Qantas (12) and Frankfurt-based Lufthansa (10). Of the top five airports, only Heathrow does not have an A380 based at the airport. British Airways is expected to take delivery of its first superjumbo this summer
