VisitEngland hopes to get further support for English Tourism Week (ETW) next year in a new collaboration with the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA).
Pubs will be encouraged to get behind the promotional week next March that aims to raise awareness of the English tourism product among consumers and the trade.
The drinking establishments have been described as a ‘beacon’ for tourists and are cited as a major attraction for around 13 million foreign tourists, according to the tourism authority.
ETW will run from 14-22 March next year and it is hoped pubs will get involved with English-themed menus, quiz nights and music events.
“With great hospitality, accommodation and entertainment, pubs are right at the heart of English Tourism. Pubs now serve around one billion meals every year and offer 50,000 rooms,” said Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the British Beer & Pub Association. “The British Beer & Pub Association will be encouraging all our members to celebrate English Tourism week in 2015, and offer advice on how they can get involved.”
James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland added: “English Tourism Week is not only an opportunity to promote an industry worth GBP106billion to the economy, but it’s also to a great way to get Britons thinking of England as their next holiday destination by reminding them what’s on their own doorstep. I am delighted that The British Beer and Pub Association is on board and look forward to its members toasting the tourism industry in 2015.”
