RAK Airlines, a UAE-based carrier, is also showing great interest in the Indian market and already operates between Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and Calicut in Kerala. Positioning itself in the niche market between the well-established commercial airlines and the more recently established low cost carriers, RAK increased the frequency of flights along the route within a month of the route’s activation, now flying five times a week. According to TOI, RAK too is considering expanding operations to Chennai. The city is quickly becoming an international and domestic aviation hub for the region.
