March 24, 2010, Taipei, Taiwan - China Airlines will recruit 80 pilots in 2010, including 60 experienced pilots, and 20 beginning pilots who will undergo basic ab-initio training. CAL is currently reviewing applications from experienced pilots, and will hold an orientation today.
Applicants for the experienced pilot positions must pass six stages of examination, which will help ensure that the short-listed candidates will successfully complete the training courses and become reliable pilots. The six stages are verification of qualifications, written and oral exams, simulation tests, a physical exam, and an overall evaluation. The qualified candidates will be trained for 12 to 14 months to acquire an Aircraft Type Rating certificate. There will be four groups of training courses starting from June, including basic flight training, transition training, and line training, which will take place at the pilot training center at CAL Park, the new corporate headquarters of China Airlines. The successful candidates will then be assigned to fly the existing CAL fleet.
The admission tests for ab-initio pilot applicants will be held during the second half 2010, and candidates who pass an aviation knowledge test and a Psychomotor exam, as well as interviews, will become ab-initio pilots. The one-year ab-initio training courses, which include ground training and basic flight training, will take place in 2011 at an overseas pilot training school. The candidates will then undergo further APQ (airline pilot qualification) training, transition training and line training for another year, and will then become first officers.
CAL currently has 986 pilots, including ab-initio pilots, commercial pilots, Air Force background pilots, foreign pilots, and pilots from other airlines. CAL has been training ab-initio pilots since 1988, and has trained about 580 pilots and first officers, including 41 female pilots. Aside from requiring excellent aviation skills, CAL values the personalities of its pilots, and stresses teamwork, ability to communicate, and knowledge of relevant laws. Moreover, pilots must strictly comply with CAA regulations, and the company’s high moral standards.
Individuals interested in joining our team of professional pilots should submit an online application. For more details about qualifications and credentials, please refer to the pilot recruiting section of the website at www.china-airlines.com.
